Meet the Team: Richard
Name: Richard Li
High school: Sydney Boys High School
HSC subjects: English Advanced, Mathematics Ext 1 and 2, Physics, Economics
Currently studying: Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) at UNSW (2nd year)
Role at EIM: I teach Mathematics Advanced and Mathematics Extension 1
Advice: Handling your stress isn’t easy; don’t be afraid to reach out and talk to those who you can rely on during difficult times.
What made you want to work at EIM?
I think almost every past and current student can agree that EIM has a very positive social and study environment. I thought it was really cool that students and teachers could have this friendly bond where they could joke with each other (ahem roasting) as opposed to the traditional tutoring sense where the relationship is more formal.
What was your favourite subject to learn in high school and why?
DEFINITELY NOT ENGLISH. Personally, it was just not my cup of tea. I didn’t enjoy it and there were just too many creative aspects. I guess there are two types of people in this world, people who hate maths and those whose hate English. I am the latter. On the other hand, my favourite subject during high school would have been hands down Maths. Maths is the epitome (yes even though I didn’t like English, I can still use words) of logic and I myself am a very logical person. Thus, I hope you can make the logical connection.
Describe yourself in 3 words
Logical, Intellectual, Thoughtful
Best advice you’ve ever received?
Hmm, best advice.. I wouldn’t call it advice but it has sort of stuck with me for a while and sometimes it really helps me with a lot of the problems and questions that I go through. I’d probably have to go with my all time favourite “just think about it”.
If you had to live without one of your senses, which would you give up?
What are the five senses again? Taste, touch, sight, hearing. OH and smell (not gonna lie had to google that one). Smell and taste are fairly important I would think since food is crucial. I mean imagine not being able to taste the food that you eat. What a nightmare. Sight and hearing are also pretty valuable to help you get through your everyday life so I’m going to have to go with touch.
There are two types of people in this world. What are the two types?
Dog Lovers and Cat lovers (if you are the latter, then you don’t matter)
Behind the scenes at EIM, we have an incredible team of people who strive to help you do the best you can. This blog series helps you get to know all the people who contribute to the amazing learning experience for every student who walks through our doors. Stay tuned to meet the rest of the team!
