Meet the Team: Michelle
Name: Michelle Chen
High school: North Sydney Girls High School
HSC subjects: English Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1, Food Technology, Ancient History, Chemistry
Currently studying: Bachelor of Science (Adv) at USYD
Role at EIM: I am junior tutor and teach some Year 10 Mathematics Advanced.
Advice: Learn the importance of pacing yourself with school work and don’t forget to have fun in your final years in high school 🙂
What made you want to work at EIM?
The money… hehe I kid, I kid.
Being a previous student at EIM, I wanted to extend my stay in a place which I had grown so fond of. I think that past, present and future students will understand the sense of family that EIM has. Also, I wanted to give back some of the knowledge and effort I received from EIM.
What was your favourite subject to learn in high school and why?
In my junior years, I really enjoyed Food Technology because it was practical and hands on. Plus, who would pass a chance to eat food??? This carried through my whole high school career and even entering my university experience as I plan to continue my studies into nutrition and dietetics. However, going into my senior years, I slowly began to enjoy maths more and more. It was almost like my brain suddenly clicked and things began to make sense, making me feel slightly more successful than I was in the years before … It gets better I promise 🙂
What are you most proud of?
Winning first in a Capricorn ballet competition. Entering the talent quest in Year 8 (despite not winning, it made me realise I was brave enough). Being a part of entertainment for Year 12 luncheon. Very good memories 🙂
What do you believe is more powerful: love or hate?
Love! It trumps hate!! And is the collective power of healing and appreciation for everyone not stronger than the inability to overcome one’s prejudices and intolerance?????
What is one thing you can’t live without?
Friends and family!!
What do you like about EIM that other tuition centres don’t have?
I have been with EIM since I was in year 9 and have only been to two other tutoring places in my course of high school maths tutoring. EIM stuck with me because even though it was an environment of learning, it was not short of new friends and endless humour. Since EIM is a bit smaller than some fellow tutoring institutions, it is evident that the learning experience is more catered towards individual students and their needs rather than just delivering content without a specific target which I think is very special and needed in our society’s educational system.
Behind the scenes at EIM, we have an incredible team of people who strive to help you do the best you can. This blog series helps you get to know all the people who contribute to the amazing learning experience for every student who walks through our doors. Stay tuned to meet the rest of the team!
